Wemby Arrives: Spurs Make the Thunder Sweat
Wemby is showing out, and the Spurs are making the Thunder's path to the title a whole lot tougher.
I didn't think the Thunder would get tested this much. I thought they’d have to battle but would coast to the conference finals, but Wemby has other plans. The Spurs are a real, honest-to-god problem for the entire Western Conference.
The Spurs and Thunder series is tied. I don't think anyone saw that coming. The Thunder were supposed to be the next dynasty, and the Spurs were supposed to be a year or two away. The Spurs are playing with house money, and the Thunder are feeling the pressure of expectations. Shai has now won back-to-back MVPs, and in his sights are back-to-back titles, but a young Victor Wembanyama may have other thoughts. We all expected the Spurs to put up a fight, but I think they are going to win this series, challenging the idea of a Thunder dynasty.
Wembanyama's impact extends beyond the court. He’s reigniting the Spurs' winning culture, a culture that defined the NBA for two decades. Think back to Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili – that Spurs dynasty set a standard. Now, Wemby is carrying that torch that was passed down from Tim Duncan.
Shai is a star, but without J-Dub and AJ Mitchell, I do not know if he can do it. He can't carry the entire team against a Spurs squad that is playing with this much confidence.
This series is more than just a playoff matchup; it’s a clash of eras. You have the Spurs, a franchise with a storied history, versus the Thunder, a team trying to write their own legacy. And it's happening NOW. The Spurs have always been about team basketball, about finding unique talent and developing it. Wemby is the ultimate example of that. The Thunder, despite their talent, are still figuring out their identity.
The Spurs are back, and the Thunder are in trouble.
